Cala il sipario e si chiudono i giochi; le ultime medaglie sono state assegnate.

Il mondo intero vi ha guardato con passione ed ora vi saluta con la stessa gioia e lo stesso entusiasmo che vi ha accompagnato in questi giorni.

C’è chi ha pianto per la gioia di vedere coronato il proprio sogno e chi lo ha fatto per lo sconforto di averlo visto sfuggire…

Un’esitazione, una leggera distrazione, persino un millesimo di secondo può decretare il vincitore di una competizione.

Sono questi i giochi Olimpici dove  atleti, giudici e spettatori hanno l’occasione di imparare non solo questa lezione ma anche:

A dare sempre il meglio in quello che facciamo,

Ad allenarci per poter migliorare giorno dopo giorno,

Ad inseguire i nostri sogni,

A credere in noi stessi,

A combattere nelle persone che credono in noi,

ma soprattutto a vivere…

Vivere nel rispetto del mondo a cui apparteniamo e di chi, seppur non ci sia riuscito, ha messo anima e cuore per poter salire sul gradino più alto del podio.

Non posso che ringraziarvi, atleti del mondo ed augurarvi

Di continuare a scalare l’Olimpo dello sport e di raggiungerne la cima entrando così nella storia.

Un’ultima cosa… dedicata tutti quelli che non hanno vinto una medaglia d’oro:

ci sarà chi tenterà di mortificarvi per non esser stati i “migliori”

A questa gente voglio dire:

“avete  ben quattro anni per tentare di far meglio di loro… se ci riuscite mi congratulerò con voi, altrimenti avete perso un’ottima occasione per stare zitti”

The curtain falls and closes the games; the latest medals were awarded.

The whole world looked at you with passion and now greets you with the same joy and the same enthusiasm that has accompanied these days.

Some people wept for joy to see crowned their dream and others wept for discomfort to seeing their dreams vanish.

A hesitation, a slight distraction, even a thousandth of a second can decide the winner of a competition.

These are the Olympic Games where athletes, judges and spectators have the opportunity to not only learn this lesson but also to learn:

To give our best in what we do,

To train to improve day after day,

To pursue our dreams,

To believe in ourselves,

To fight for the people who believe in us,

but above all to live ...

Living in respect of the world and of those who have put heart and soul in the attempt to climb the top step of the podium..

I have to thank you, athletes in the world, and i wish you

to continue to climb Olympus and to reach the top, thus entering into the story of the sport.

last thing ... for all those who have not won a gold medal:

There will be someone who will attempt to mortify you for not being the "best"

To these people I say:

"You have four years to try to do better ... if you can I will congratulate you, otherwise you have lost a good opportunity to shut up"
